NEC have appointed apprentice-trained 25-year-old Matt Keeley to the Board of Directors, this follows on from the company becoming an Employee Ownership Trust (EOT) earlier in the year.
Matt who has recently completed his end point assessment for his Level 3 Machining Apprenticeship with AMRC-Training Centre in Rotherham has throughout his apprenticeship put himself forward to learn extra skills in the business, becoming qualified in nuclear coded welding and gaining experience of CNC programming, 9-axis milling and water jet cutting. To support him in his new role as a director the company is also supporting him in studying for an MBA.
David Greenan, Sales Director said, “Matt is self-motivated, keen to learn and make the business a success. He understands that he has a long-term future with the business, he has been adaptable and has learnt every role to gain a better understanding of the work and make a more valuable contribution by being willing to move to different departments as workflow requires.”
Matt said “I’m excited to take on this opportunity to develop my career and take on the challenge in driving the business forward over the next decade.”
Matt takes up the new position after the company advertised the new role on the Board of Directors to staff and went through an application and interview process, which including candidates having to present to the existing board on why they should get the role, and their ideas for the future of the business.
Matt was shortlisted for the Apprentice of the Year at the Made in Sheffield Awards 2022. In addition to his role at NEC he is continuing as a retained firefighter with Derbyshire Fire Service.
